Water to Wine
About the song.
Inspiration for Water to Wine was primarily pulled from what was then called a “Mormon Message,” by Elder L. Whitney Clayton of the Seventy. This video was based on a general conference talk he had given titled, “Whatsoever He Saith Unto You, Do it.”
Side Note: “What is General Conference?” you ask? - think a two-day, ten-hour church fest where prophets of God and other amazing saints teach what God wants His children to hear at this time.
I simply thought the talk and the video were chock full of good song material such as:
Depicting Mary’s humble attitude toward the Angel Gabriel’s news that she would birth the Son of God
Showing Mary’s faith in God’s plan for her, despite her lack of knowledge in specifics of how it would be brought about and the “countless questions” she probably had
How ”she accepted God’s word unconditionally and in advance with little knowledge of what lay ahead”
The similarity between her response to the angel Gabriel as a young woman and her direction to servants at a marriage feast in Cana of Galilee in her older years - “Whatsoever He saith unto you, see that ye do it”
“When we trust and follow Him, like water to wine, our lives are transformed. We become something more, and better, than we ever otherwise could be”
Other than just being good song material, I have seen, currently see, and hope to be able to see how the Lord can transform me to accomplish marvelous missions and purposes for Him (always for the purpose of blessing His children!). There’s nothing like looking back at various periods of life we have traversed and realizing that we have become “more, and better,” more like Jesus.
I know He has great power to help us transform our lives from water to wine. Come and see!
